Our Mission

Unearthed Resonance was created to amplify the voices of underrepresented composers, musicians, and traditional instruments from across the globe — voices that have long shaped cultural life, yet remain underrepresented in mainstream musical traditions.  Encompassing Indigenous, African, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and Asian musical heritages, It seeks to expand public awareness of the narratives that have long existed beyond the traditional Western canon.  As a classical musician, I was trained in a repertoire that celebrated centuries of European composers.  Rarely did I ever encounter composers who reflected the diverse cultural backgrounds of many students in today’s ensembles, such as Florence Price, whose Symphony No. 1 in E minor marked a historic milestone for African American women composers, or Korean American composer Unsuk Chin, whose works like Violin Concerto No. 1 feature a blend of contemporary orchestral writing with influences drawn from traditional Korean musical aesthetics.  This absence was not due to a lack of musical brilliance elsewhere, but rather to longstanding patterns of omission in what is taught, performed, and promoted.  That absence sparked inspiration.  Unearthed Resonance began as a personal exploration and grew into a commitment to uncovering the voices that have often remained at the margins of mainstream appreciation, whether through highlighting traditional instruments like the Chinese guzheng or introducing audiences to genres such as Hindustani raga and Argentinian tango.  This project seeks to elevate overlooked musicians and provide an accessible resource for those who wish to broaden their understanding of classical music and global traditions.  The goal is not to replace tradition, but to widen it.  Music is more than performance; It is identity, memories, and culture, translated across generations through sound.  By expanding awareness of marginalized musical traditions, Unearthed Resonance affirms that artistic excellence is not confined to one culture or region, but woven into the interconnected richness of the world’s musical narratives.

About Me!

Hi! My name is Hajin Kim, but I go by Chloe. I’m a Korean American high school student who has been playing the violin since I was 7. I’ve always enjoyed playing in ensembles, both in and out of school. Through these experiences, I developed a deep appreciation for the ability of music to connect and bring people together!
